Eni May Offer Deal In EU Gas Transfer Antitrust Probe

Law360, New York (April 9, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Eni SpA is considering proposing its own settlement to the European Commission in order to avoid a fine and end an investigation into whether the Italian energy giant abused its dominant market position over international natural gas pipelines.

Having received the EC's preliminary antitrust objections in March, Eni still plans to file a defense with the commission, but the company "may consider whether to voluntarily file a set of remedies to settle the proceeding," Eni said in its 2008 annual report, published April 7.
