Perkins Coie Axes 12 Lawyers, 26 Staff Members

Law360, New York (April 14, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Perkins Coie LLP disclosed Tuesday that it was cutting 38 jobs, including those of 12 attorneys, in an effort to weather the economic crisis, but aggressive cost-cutting will hopefully mean no more layoffs, a Perkins partner said.

In addition to lawyers, the firm laid off 26 nonattorney staff, managing partner Bob Giles said. The reduction amounts to less than 2 percent of Perkins' total staff, a relatively low figure that Giles attributed to a focus on reducing costs.
