FTC Administrative Judge Dismisses Rambus Antitrust Case

Law360, New York (February 18, 2004, 12:00 AM EST) -- A federal administrative judge Tuesday dismissed an antitrust lawsuit filed by the Federal Trade Commission against memory chip maker Rambus over its use of patents.

The FTC’s chief administrative law judge rejected government allegations that Rambus violated antitrust laws by attending meetings to set industry standards for memory chips as it pursued patents for those chips.

Judge Stephen McGuire said the FTC "failed to sustain its burden" of proving that Rambus committed fraud. McGuire issued a one-sentence order and will release a written opinion Monday....
