Sens. Seek Subpoena Power For TARP Watchdog

Law360, New York (April 21, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Now that lawmakers are back in Washington, Sens. Olympia J. Snowe, R-Maine, and Ron Wyden, D-Ore., have returned to their tough stance on the stimulus, introducing a bill that would give subpoena power to a panel overseeing the massive spending program.

The measure would provide the Congressional Oversight Panel with subpoena authority, the senators said, "so that it can effectively conduct oversight on behalf of American taxpayers" as trillions of dollars associated with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 are doled out.
