Japan Invokes Leniency Measure In Bid-Rigging Case

Law360, New York (September 8, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Japan’s Fair Trade Commission has decided not to impose fines on Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. after the company stepped forward and confessed to taking part in a bid-rigging plot for an expressway tunnel ventilation system contract.

The JFTC said Friday it will also cut surcharges by 30% for two other machinery companies, Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co. and Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd., that latched on to Mitsubishi’s example and admitted their roles in the scheme.
