Covidien Hits Bard With Surgical-Mesh Patent Suit

Law360 (April 22, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Covidien AG has sued fellow medical supplier C.R. Bard Inc. and one of its subsidiaries, alleging they willfully infringed a Covidien patent by making and selling the surgical mesh-affixing system SorbaFix.

Filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware, Covidien's lawsuit claims C.R. Bard and Davol Inc. knowingly violated the patent, which covers a stent-delivery balloon structure.

Mansfield, Mass.-based Covidien was once called Tyco Healthcare Group LP, but split from Tyco International and took the new name.
