TTAB Says U-Haul's 'Trailershare' Is Merely Descriptive

Law360, New York (November 20, 2017, 1:46 PM EST) -- The Trademark Trial and Appeal Board on Friday refused to allow U-Haul to register various iterations of its “Trailershare” brand as trademarks, ruling the term is merely descriptive of the company’s services.

U-Haul International Inc. had applied in 2015 to register “Trailershare,” “Trailersharing” and three similar names as trademarks for truck rental services, but the board said consumers would see it as a straightforward description of the company’s services.
