India To Form Panel To Review Data Protection

Law360, New York (February 19, 2004, 12:00 AM EST) -- In another sign that India is moving toward data protection for drug patents, the government has formed a high-level panel to explore whether the country should legislate a ban on unfair use of data furnished to regulators, the Economic Times of India reported.

The committee is assigned with determining if data protection is warranted and how it would be enacted and enforced. It consists of representatives of various ministries as well as a few intellectual property rights experts and attorneys, according to the newspaper.
