Commissioner Calls For European Patent Court

Law360 (September 11, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The European Union’s internal markets commissioner has pushed forward with plans to establish an inexpensive patent system for Europe.

Charlie McCreevy spoke Friday in Helsinki at a meeting of E.U. finance ministers. In a move to end a stalemate over the controversial matter, he said he endorsed the implementation of a single European patent court.

McCreevy said that he was committed to improving the patent system, and that changes would promote start-up businesses and generate jobs.
