As GCs Grow In Stature, Bonuses Are On The Rise

Law360, New York (November 29, 2017, 8:44 PM EST) -- General counsel and chief legal officers saw their total compensation grow by almost 10 percent between 2015 and 2016 with bonuses accounting for much of the increase, reflecting the rising importance of legal department leaders, according to a new study released Wednesday.

Total compensation for general counsel grew 9.6 percent between 2015 and 2016, according to the In-House Compensation Report by legal search firm Major Lindsey & Africa. During that period, base salaries increased only 1.3 percent, but bonuses increased 38 percent.
