Mine Safety Judge Slams DOL Chief's Bid To Slash Fine

Law360, New York (November 30, 2017, 3:57 PM EST) -- A judge at the federal agency that hears disputes concerning mine safety penalties slammed U.S. Department of Labor Secretary Alex Acosta for his opacity in a case over a miner’s 14-foot fall, saying Wednesday that Acosta cannot drop a fine by more than 80 percent and then refuse to share his reasoning.
