Fed. Watchdog Wants Puerto Rico To ID Key Services

Law360, Los Angeles (June 16, 2017, 9:07 PM EDT) -- The federal board tasked with overseeing Puerto Rico’s fiscal plans told several of the island’s elected officials in a letter Friday to specifically identify what they view as “essential services” in light of the territory’s government debt crisis.

The letter, penned by the Financial Oversight and Management Board for Puerto Rico’s Chairman Jose B. Carrion, also urged Gov. Ricardo A. Rossello Nevares, Senate President Thomas Rivera Schatz, and House Speaker Carlos J. Mendez Nunez to avoid using overly optimistic language about the financial situation.
