A Wisconsin federal jury awarded biotech company Novozymes A/S about $18.3 million in damages Thursday in a suit claiming DuPont Co. unit Danisco A/S infringed a Novozymes patent covering an enzyme primarily used to make biofuel.

A Wisconsin federal jury on Tuesday ruled that biotechnology company Danisco AS had failed to prove a patent invalid in an infringement suit brought by rival Novozymes AS over a variant of the enzyme alpha amylase, which is used to make ethanol.
