A New York federal judge on Monday sharply reduced a $12 million damages verdict awarded to billionaire William Koch over his purchase of counterfeit wine, slashing a fine the judge called "excessive" to less than $1 million.

Billionaire William Koch won a whopping $12 million punitive damages verdict Friday against an Internet entrepreneur whom he had accused of consigning counterfeit wine to Zachys Wine & Liquor Store Inc. that Koch had bought at a Zachys auction.
