Sterling Liable For $22M Superfund Site, Judge Says
A federal judge on Monday ruled that Sterling Centrecorp Inc. is liable for the government's cleanup costs — which it has estimated to be at least $22 million — at the Lava Cap Mine Superfund site in California, finding Sterling's 1952 acquisition of Lava Cap's assets was a de facto merger.
