A Maryland federal judge on Wednesday tossed five of eight Securities and Exchange Act claims in a consolidated class action suit accusing Merrill Lynch Pierce Fenner & Smith Inc. and RBC Capital Markets Corp. of misleading investors about a 2005 securities offering by real estate finance company Municipal Mortgage & Equity LLC.
