An environmental consulting firm on Friday appealed to the Tenth Circuit a Colorado federal court's ruling that its three insurers had no duty to defend or indemnify the firm in an underlying racketeering suit brought by Chevron Corp. over pollution in the Amazon.

A Colorado federal judge on Thursday allowed three insurers to avoid defending Stratus Consulting Inc. in a racketeering suit from Chevron Corp.accusing the firm and others of peddling sham allegations over an oil spill in Ecuador that led to a $19.2 billion judgment against the company.

Navigators Specialty Insurance Co. asked a Colorado federal court Monday to rule it has no duty to defend or indemnify an environmental consultant for claims that it conspired to extort money from Chevron Corp. in a $27 billion suit over pollution in the Amazon.
