A federal district judge on Monday tossed three suits challenging the U.S. Department of the Interior's establishment of an Alaska polar bear habitat, months after the Ninth Circuit found the district court erred when it held the federal government to an unnecessary standard of specificity in designating the habitat.

The U.S. Department of the Interior on Monday asked an Alaska federal judge to reconsider the establishment of a polar bear habitat, saying he had misunderstood the grounds for its designation when he granted oil industry and tribal groups' request to vacate the rule establishing the habitat.
