A federal jury in Chicago has found that Samsung Electronics Co Ltd. did not infringe a patent owned by Cascades Computer Innovation LLC, a nonpracticing entity led by former Jenner & Block LLP partner Anthony Brown, who has been described as "the original patent troll."

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. and HTC Corp. urged an Illinois federal judge on Tuesday to nix a patent infringement suit brought by Cascades Computer Innovation LLC over their use of Google's Android operating system, claiming Cascades exhausted its patent rights by entering into a licensing agreement with Google.

An Illinois federal judge on Wednesday kept alive a suit brought by patent licensing company Cascades Computer Innovation LLC against Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., finding Cascades has more than adequately alleged claims against both defendants.
