A Jiffy Lube International Inc. franchisee agreed to pay between $35 million and $47 million in cash and services on Wednesday to settle class claims by customers who received spam texts from the oil change company, exiting California multidistrict litigation against Jiffy Lube's largest franchisee. A California federal judge ruled last week that the Telephone Consumer Protection Act does not violate the First Amendment, dealing a blow to a major Jiffy Lube International Inc. franchisee hoping to exit multidistrict litigation claiming it sent spam texts.
