A Virginia federal judge on Monday threw out an inventor's antitrust allegations against Nike Inc., Apple Inc. and others over Nike+ fitness monitoring products used with iPods and other items, ruling that a patent infringement suit was not the proper avenue to address such claims.

An inventor on Monday sued Nike Inc., Apple Inc. and others in Virginia federal court, claiming the companies' production of Nike+ products infringed two patents and violated the Sherman and Clayton acts by unlawfully restricting competition in the fitness monitoring footwear market.
