Rogue Class Accused Of Fees Extortion In $18M TCPA Deal
A consumer class that settled a Telephone Consumer Protection Act multidistrict litigation for $18 million demanded more than $60,000 in sanctions Monday from a would-be breakaway class that failed to get court recognition then allegedly threatened to undermine the deal unless the class played ball on legal fees.

Debt Collection Co. To Pay $18M To End TCPA Robocall MDL
Portfolio Recovery Associates LLC said it will pay $18 million to resolve multidistrict litigation accusing the debt collection company of violating the Telephone Consumer Protection Act by making autodialed phone calls to consumers without their consent, according to documents filed Monday in California federal court.

Debt Collection Co. To Face TCPA Suit Over Unit's Calls
A California federal judge ruled Wednesday that Portfolio Recovery Associates Inc. must face Telephone Consumer Protection Act multidistrict litigation for its subsidiary's alleged use of an automatic telephone dialing system without consumers' consent, finding that the parent company could be held liable.
