The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency reached a settlement Wednesday with three environmental groups demanding that the agency update 26-year-old emissions standards for kraft pulp mills, agreeing to issue a proposed rule or determination addressing the regulation within the next six months.

The American Forest & Paper Association Inc. cannot challenge a lawsuit in which environmental groups demand a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency review of decades-old emissions standards for kraft pulp mills, a California federal judge ruled Friday.
