Time Warner Cable Inc. on Thursday dodged a putative class action suit filed in New Jersey federal court seeking relief for 14 million Time Warner customers affected by a sports network blackout after a judge called the plaintiff's claims vague and unconvincing.

Time Warner Cable Inc. bilked customers when it stopped carrying networks that air games featuring New York sports teams but continued to charge the same subscription fees, according to an amended complaint filed Tuesday in New Jersey federal court.
