A Virginia federal judge granted summary judgment to Timex Group USA Inc. in its fight to register "Intelligent Quartz" as a trademark for a line of watches, holding Tuesday that a U.S. Patent and Trademark Office appeal board had erred in denying registration.

Timex Sues USPTO Over 'Intelligent Quartz' Trademark
Timex Group USA Inc. on Friday took its fight to register "Intelligent Quartz" as a trademark for a line of watches to a Virginia federal court, arguing the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office was mistaken when it found that the phrase was a straight-ahead description of the products and did not qualify for trademark protection.
