Gastar Exploration Ltd. will pay $85 million to purchase two Chesapeake Energy Corp. oil and natural gas leaseholds in Oklahoma and repurchase Chesapeake's holding in the company, in exchange for Chesapeake agreeing to settle a Texas federal suit over a botched joint venture, it announced Monday.

Gastar Exploration Ltd. on Wednesday asked a Texas federal judge to toss a Chesapeake Energy Corp. unit's $130 million suit seeking to rescind contracts for a botched joint venture, saying Chesapeake was aware of a third-party claim to several Gastar oil and gas leases and signed the contracts anyway.
