A California federal court has ruled that NuVasive Inc. did not infringe Medtronic unit Warsaw Orthopedic Inc.’s patent for a trackable body implant used to heal bones, finding that Warsaw asserted claim limitations that NuVasive’s competing product does not meet.

A California federal judge ruled on Tuesday that Medtronic unit Warsaw Orthopedic Inc. did not infringe NuVasive Inc.'s design patent on a medical device used to open tissue before surgery, finding that an ordinary person wouldn't think the devices looked the same.
