Mercedes-Benz USA LLC on Tuesday slammed a putative class's bid for attorneys' fees over a successful attempt to compel the automaker to fork over documents in a defective engine row, telling a Louisiana federal judge it relied on the court's previous scheduling order when initially refusing discovery requests.

Plaintiffs urged a Louisiana federal judge on Monday to certify a class action accusing Mercedes-Benz USA of making and selling defective engines in cars that risked consumers' safety and required costly repairs, saying all of the affected engines suffered from the same defect.
