The founding family of American Greetings Corp. on Monday told a federal judge that a proposed class action suit over the card and gift company's $878 million go-private deal should be tossed, arguing that the suit is nothing more than a dissatisfied shareholder trying to disrupt the process.

An American Greetings Corp. shareholder took aim at the card and gift company's founding family Wednesday, saying in a proposed class action that they were too close to a purportedly independent board that approved the terms of their lowballed $878 million go-private bid.
