An Illinois federal judge granted final approval Friday to a $3 million settlement over an alleged scheme to smuggle Chinese honey into the U.S., allowing the former heads of U.S. honey importer Groeb Farms to exit a class action that claims $180 million worth of harm to the domestic honey market.

Three U.S. honey producers hit alleged Chinese honey smuggler Groeb Farms Inc. with a proposed class action Wednesday in Illinois federal court, accusing the company of defrauding the U.S. government and domestic honey-makers by "laundering" cheap, altered versions of the sweetener to conceal its Chinese origin.
