An Illinois federal jury concluded on Friday that both GlaxoSmithKline and Hospira were injured by the fallout over a troubled contract to manufacture a flu vaccine and awarded both parties damages, giving Hospira a slight edge of $40,000.

A GlaxoSmithKline unit went to trial in Illinois on Monday in hopes of convincing a federal jury that fellow pharmaceutical company Hospira owes millions of dollars for breaking a contract to fill syringes with a flu vaccine, but Hospira says it was the one harmed when GSK walked away from the contract without paying up.

An Illinois federal judge Friday ruled that Hospira couldn't escape claims that it breached a contract with GlaxoKlineSmith to produce a flu vaccine, although the judge threw out a claim that Hospira made money when it set aside the agreement.
