Energy provider NiSource Inc. on Wednesday asked an Ohio federal judge to toss a lawsuit seeking to obtain pollution cleanup funds for a former gas plant, arguing that it can't be linked to previous site owners and that the claims are time-barred.

A group of companies, including Alcatel-Lucent USA Inc. and The Sherwin Williams Co., sued Michelin North America Inc., Kohler Co. and other entities in Ohio federal court Friday, alleging they should cover $5 million in environmental response costs at a former solvent reclamation site.
