A class of consumers alleging a scratch-off sweepstakes card deceived them into thinking they had won a prize asked an Illinois federal judge Tuesday for a quick win against HMI Industries, arguing it proved the air filtration company is liable for shoddy business practices under state law.

Customers Duped By Sweepstakes Mailers Win Class Cert.
An Illinois federal judge on Tuesday granted class certification to consumers suing TD Bank and HMI Industries for sending them "scratcher" sweepstakes cards saying they had won a prize, and then requiring them to invite sales associates into their homes before they could claim that prize.
