A federal judge has ordered Orthophoenix, a company founded by prominent patent licensing executive Erich Spangenberg, to pay more than $572,000 in legal fees incurred by Medtronic during a suit by Orthophoenix against Stryker over former Medtronic patents.

Stryker Corp. is the latest company to be slapped with a patent infringement suit alleging that some of its surgical instruments for spinal procedures infringe 10 patents held by Orthophoenix LLC, according to a complaint filed Tuesday in Delaware federal court.
