A Washington state federal judge on Thursday upheld the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s approval of Washington and Oregon’s decisions not to identify as “impaired” any of their waters that are experiencing ocean acidification, finding the EPA properly analyzed the science before making its decision.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Friday asked a Washington federal judge to quash a Center for Biological Diversity suit seeking enhanced Clean Water Act protections off the Pacific coast, arguing that 2012 ocean acidification data did not support listing the areas as imperiled waters.
