Microsoft Corp. scored a victory Friday when a California federal judge invalidated claims in three IpLearn-Focus LLC technology-based teaching patents IpLearn-Focus accused Microsoft's Kinect products of infringing, finding under the U.S. Supreme Court's Alice ruling that the patents were abstract and didn't contain anything inventive.

Microsoft Says Alice Dooms Teaching Patents In IP Feud
Microsoft Corp. urged a California federal judge Wednesday to invalidate three IpLearn-Focus LLC patents it is accused of infringing with its Kinect products, arguing the technology-based learning patents cover abstract ideas and simply computerize aspects of human teaching, which doesn't fly under the Supreme Court's Alice ruling.
