A California federal jury on Tuesday found Pacific Gas & Electric Co. negligent and partially to blame for a power outage that caused a weeklong Tesoro refinery shutdown, ordering PG&E to pay approximately $3.5 million of Tesoro's damages.

Pacific Gas & Electric Co. caused a weeklong Tesoro refinery shutdown and should pay up for at least seven days of lost profits after breaching a power contract, Tesoro told a California federal jury Tuesday at the start of its trial against PG&E.

A California federal judge on Thursday forbade Tesoro Refining & Marketing Co. LLC from using evidence from PG&E Corp.'s disastrous 2010 Bay Area pipeline explosion at trial in its contract suit against PG&E over a power outage that damaged a refinery, saying the explosion had nothing to do with Tesoro's suit.

PG&E Corp. dodged punitive damages in Tesoro Refining & Marketing Co. LLC's contract suit claiming PG&E hid the dangers of a 2010 power outage that damaged a Tesoro refinery and released pollutants when a California federal judge said Friday that Tesoro's bid for additional damages came too late.
