Utica Mutual Insurance Co. asked a New York federal court Monday to find that R&Q Reinsurance Co. breached the parties' contract by refusing to reimburse more than $5.7 million that Utica has paid to resolve asbestos injury claims against Goulds Pumps Inc., asserting that R&Q's challenges to its calculations are baseless.

Utica Mutual Insurance Co. filed suit on Wednesday in New York federal court against R&Q Reinsurance Co., aiming to force the reinsurer to chip in more than $4.2 million, along with future payments, toward a settlement with Goulds Pumps Inc. over thousands of asbestos injury claims.
