A class member in a stockholder suit over Covidien PLC and Medtronic Inc.'s proposed, $42.9 billion merger objected Friday to the nonmonetary settlement, saying it fails to benefit the class at all because it merely involves the additional disclosure of "worthless" documents.

Covidien PLC and Medtronic Inc. on Tuesday agreed to a non-monetary settlement in a consolidated stockholder suit alleging that their proposed $42.9 billion merger undervalues Covidien and accusing Covidien directors of breaches of fiduciary duty, the parties told a Massachusetts federal court.

A Covidien PLC investor hit the company and Medtronic Inc. with a proposed stockholder class action in Massachusetts federal court on Thursday, alleging breaches of fiduciary duty and seeking to halt a $42.9 billion merger deal under which Covidien would be acquired by Medtronic.
