A number of environmental groups dropped their suit against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Tuesday after the agency granted part of a petition asking it to include fracking in a category of operations required to file annual toxic release reports.

A D.C. federal judge granted a joint stay motion Friday in a lawsuit that nine environmental and open government groups brought against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for failing to respond to a 2012 petition to increase transparency on chemicals used in hydraulic fracturing.

Environmentalists and an open government group on Wednesday filed suit in D.C. federal court against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for allegedly failing to require the oil and gas extraction industry to disclose the toxic chemicals released by fracking and natural gas operations.
