A California federal judge denied class certification Thursday to consumers accusing Brother International Corp. of misrepresenting the capability of multifunction printers that allegedly can't scan the full length or breadth of documents, saying individual questions would predominate over common ones.

Brother International Corp. asked a California federal judge on Friday to toss a proposed class action over misrepresentative printer advertisements, saying the lead plaintiff deserves monetary sanctions for deleting files regarding his printer's functionality.
