Greenpeace and other environmental groups have agreed to drop a federal lawsuit that challenged the U.S. Forest Service's blessing for the logging of more than 4,000 acres of old-growth forest in Alaska's Tongass National Forest after the agency withdrew its approval for the plan.

Several environmental groups sued the U.S. Forest Service in Alaska federal court on Monday, challenging the agency's decision to authorize logging on more than 4,000 acres of old-growth forests in the Tongass National Forest without adequately considering the project's effect on wildlife and subsistence hunters.
