Bar Code 'Benign' In Debt Collection Class Action, Court Says
A Pennsylvania federal judge on Wednesday granted Van Ru Credit Corp. summary judgment in a proposed class action accusing the debt collector of violating people’s privacy by mailing collection envelopes with scannable barcodes on them, saying the exposed information wasn’t identifiable. Correction: An earlier version of this story stated the lawsuit alleged violations of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. The error has been corrected.
