A North Dakota federal judge on Monday tossed Whiting Petroleum Corp.'s suit accusing the employment regulation arm of the Three Affiliated Tribes of exceeding its authority by imposing a fine for selling crude oil to another non-Native American entity in light of the fact the regulation arm has dismissed the fine altogether.

An employment regulation arm of the Three Affiliated Tribes pressed a North Dakota federal court to nix Whiting Petroleum Corp.'s lawsuit accusing it of exceeding its authority by imposing a fine for selling crude oil to another non-Native American entity, saying Wednesday the dispute is moot because the fine has been dropped.
