Penn National on Monday blasted two sisters’ claims that a Maryland federal court should toss the insurer’s suit over a $4 million judgment stemming from childhood lead exposure in favor of their state court action over the same award.

Pennsylvania National Mutual Casualty Insurance Co. filed suit in Maryland federal court Monday seeking a declaration that it only has to cover part of the more than $4 million collectively awarded to two people a jury found were owed for their exposure to lead-based paint in their childhood home.
