A Travelers subsidiary breached its duty to defend Minute Key Inc. against allegations the self-service key duplication company falsely accused a competitor of patent infringement, and failed to establish that an exclusion for intellectual property claims barred coverage, a Colorado federal judge ruled Friday.

Self-service key duplication company Minute Key Inc. asked a Colorado federal court Friday to rule that a Travelers subsidiary must defend it in a lawsuit alleging it falsely accused a competitor of patent infringement, contending an intellectual property exclusion in its policy doesn't apply to product disparagement claims.
