A California federal judge on Thursday put to rest claims by a proposed class of Kiewit Infrastructure West Co. workers that they weren't given adequate meal breaks and rest periods, saying the company was exempted from liability by a valid collective bargaining agreement.

A California federal judge on Thursday refused to certify a proposed class of Kiewit Infrastructure West Co. field workers in a suit accusing the company of not paying for work done off the clock and for certain breaks, saying there were individual questions that would need to be hashed out.
