U.S. Steel Corp. and several banks acting as underwriters in the company's second public offering have requested permission from a Pennsylvania federal judge to appeal her September ruling that investors have adequate standing for securities fraud claims they brought over the offering, calling the issue a "controlling question of law."

Shareholders in U.S. Steel Corp. have filed suit in Pennsylvania federal court over what they say is the largest one-day stock drop in the steel producer's history since 1991, accusing the company of cutting costs instead of investing in equipment improvements like its competitors.
