An Illinois federal judge is allowing current and former Northwestern University students to move ahead with their proposed class action seeking refunds after COVID-19 pushed the school to move classes online, ruling Northwestern had an implied agreement to provide in-person instruction.

An Illinois federal judge has thrown out a proposed class action alleging that Northwestern University breached its contract with students when it shifted to virtual instruction in response to COVID-19, saying the school didn't promise in-person instruction to incoming students or create an implied contract in its communications with them.
