A Michigan federal judge on Tuesday agreed to throw out a proposed class action against engine manufacturer Cummins and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles over defective fuel pumps in heavy-duty pickup trucks, ruling the automaker's promise to replace parts and inspect the fuel system makes the underlying case moot.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and engine manufacturer Cummins have asked a Michigan federal judge to slash a proposed class action alleging the automaker sold heavy-duty diesel trucks with defective fuel injection pumps that weren't compatible with American fuel and caused premature engine failure, saying a recall nullifies the consumers' claims.
